COMPENSATION GUIDE

Flight delay compensation amounts: how much could you claim?

The amount depends on the distance and arrival delay—not how much your ticket cost.

Information checked: 24 October 2026

No payment. No appointment. You can claim directly from your airline for free.

UK261 delay compensation per passenger

For a qualifying delayed flight, the standard amounts are shown below. Coverage and the cause of disruption must also qualify. These are delay amounts; cancellations and rerouting have additional rules.

Potential compensation for eligible UK261 arrival delays
Flight distanceArrival delayAmount
Up to 1,500 km3 hours or more£220
Over 1,500 to 3,500 km3 hours or more£350
Over 3,500 km3 to under 4 hours£260
Over 3,500 km4 hours or more£520

The maximum is not a guaranteed or average payout. A shorter ticket price does not reduce a qualifying fixed award. See our eligibility guide before estimating your claim.

Compensation, a refund and expenses are different

Compensation addresses disruption. A ticket refund returns the fare when a refund right applies. Reimbursement covers eligible costs such as meals or overnight accommodation. Keep these items separate when you contact the airline; an expenses payment does not necessarily settle a compensation claim.

What would you keep with Sort It Flights?

Our proposed fee is 35% of eligible compensation actually recovered, including any applicable VAT. You keep 65%. No recovery means no service fee. These examples describe the planned service; paid claim handling is not yet available.

Ticket refunds, expenses and court work are excluded from this percentage service. You can claim directly from the airline for free and retain the full award.

If more than one passenger travelled

Keep the travel details for each person together, but do not assume everyone has identical entitlement. Record any separate booking, rerouting or previous payment. Do not send other passengers’ identity or banking documents with an initial enquiry.
